Ariel is a fictional character who serves as the main character in Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated film, “The Little Mermaid” (1989). After this, she is featured in the film’s prequel television series (1992—1994), the direct-to-video sequel “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea” (2000), and the direct-to-video prequel “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning” (2008). The character of Ariel is consistently voiced by Jodi Benson in all official animated portrayals and associated merchandise. She holds the distinction of being the fourth princess in the Disney Princess lineup, the first princess who is not human, and the only princess who becomes a mother to her own child.
